About the Event

Workshop Dates: Sept. 2, Sept. 16, Oct. 7, and Oct. 21, 2022, 1–2:30 p.m.

The early fall Memory Lounge series kicks off with a very special workshop led by internationally known artist Eiko Otake. Born and raised in Japan and a resident of New York since 1976, Otake is a movement–based, interdisciplinary artist. She will perform for workshop participants in the galleries of Beverly McIver: Full Circle in Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

Both Otake and McIver, separately and together, have worked with themes of aging and the acts of giving and receiving care. A caregiver herself, McIver’s paintings look deeply at herself and others. Otake will lead a movement workshop, accessible for all abilities. Moving and seeing others moving, participants will learn our inherent humanity, its weight, and its beauty.

In other workshops in this series, you will meet singer-songwriter AJ Odneal and visual artists Kyllan Maney and Ellen Murray. Check back soon for more information about these workshops.

Memory Lounge is an arts program for people with mild to moderate memory loss and their care partners. Did you know that engagement in the arts can improve your quality of life by:

  • Improving mood and outlook
  • Lessening the effects of depression and/or anxiety
  • Offering a comfortable social outing
  • Giving you wonderful moments together
  • Putting something FUN in your calendar!

Each series will introduce you to four professional artists who will lead workshops in visual arts, music, dance, or theatre. Additionally, you will see the current exhibitions at SMoCA and engage in discussions about the artworks, ideas, and artists. This is a wonderful self-care opportunity that promises to create new joyful memories!

The pricing is per couple for the four-workshop series. Sorry, but individual workshop sales are not possible.
