Welcome to Hope Chest!

Hope Chest is a comprehensive curriculum and kit of teaching resources designed to immerse students in Holocaust survivor Oskar Knoblauch’s memoir, A Boy’s Story, A Man’s Memory: Surviving the Holocaust 1933–1945. Oskar’s story of survival and relevant themes of hope, respect, and giving 110% will inspire and connect directly to students’ lives while supporting academic standards. Students will be captivated when the Hope Chest—an authentic World War II-era trunk—arrives filled with a treasure trove of materials, including a class set of books, authentic and replica artifacts, World War II-era maps, and workbook journals and mementos for students to keep!

Cost and Damage Fees

There is no cost to reserve Hope Chest. Materials that are lost or irreparably damaged will be charged to the school. Materials shall only be used under the guidance and supervision of the responsible individual under whose name the reservation is made.

Reservations

Kits may be reserved for the following windows:

  • August 5 – October 4, 2024
  • October 14 – December 20, 2024
  • January 6 – March 7, 2025
  • March 17 – May 22, 2025

Please allow four to five weeks to complete Hope Chest.

Pick-Up and Return

Pick-up and drop-off Hope Chest at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts.

Hope Chest must be returned no later than 6 p.m. on the due date indicated within your confirmation email. Late returns will incur a fee of $20 per day.

Arrangements for pick-up and drop-off may also be made for a fee. Please contact Christine Harthun, residency and curriculum coordinator, at [email protected]. Upon completion of Hope Chest, please carefully return all materials to the footlocker in the manner they were found. Using the checklist, complete a final inventory and condition report of items.
