FAQs

Are student matinees open to the public?

Student matinees are offered during the school year as field trip opportunities to all schools including public, charter, and private schools and homeschool groups. These performances are not open to the public.

How much are tickets to student matinees?

Tickets are $5 per student and chaperone tickets are free. Title I schools qualify for free tickets and transportation through a partnership with Act One. Visit Act1az.org for more information on how to book tickets.

How do I place an order for student matinees?

Call or email our guest services team at 480-499-8587 or email at [email protected]. Box office hours are Wednesday – Saturday, noon – 6 p.m.

Where do the matinees take place?

All matinees are performed in the Virginia G. Piper theater at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 E. 2nd Street, Scottsdale, AZ, 85251 (unless otherwise noted).

What time should we arrive?

Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to show time.

Can we eat lunch while we are there?

Yes! Scottsdale Civic Center is located directly outside of the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts with ample space for lunch (weather permitting). No pre-booking is required, just bring your bagged lunches in coolers and sunscreen.

Do you have parking for buses?

Yes, but parking is limited. When booking please confirm how many buses you will be bringing with you.

How many chaperones should I bring?

It is recommended to assign each chaperone a designated group of students and provide him/her with a written list of the students in that group. We recommend the following:

  • One chaperone for every five students in grades 3–5
  • One chaperone for every ten students in middle and high school.

Chaperones must stay with their assigned group throughout the field trip. Adult chaperones are responsible for the students’ conduct and behavior during their visit to the Center. Title I schools may book through Act One to receive free tickets and transportation. Visit Act One for more information.

I have a student with special needs; how can you accommodate the experience?

For accessible seating needs, please contact our Guest Services Coordinator at (480) 874-4696.  Audio description for the visually impaired and American Sign Language interpretation are available with two weeks’ notice. Please call (480) 499-8587.
