Choose from these experiences designed to invoke wonder, inspire conversation, and empower artistic discovery through the rotating exhibitions at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. All tours are free.

NOTE: Museum programs may be formatted to make the experience accessible for diverse learners. Whether your learners thrive in a sensory-friendly environment, require an interpreter for language barriers, or access learning through differentiated instruction, we will work with you to meet the learning needs of your group. Three weeks’ notice is required.

 

 

Art Start Training Wheels

This program prepares children for museum visits by building skills of exploring, looking, listening, traveling, and making art.

  • Recommended ages: 3–5
  • Maximum: Up to 24 students
  • Length: One hour
 

Art Start

Choose up to three sequential museum visits that ignite curiosity through discovery while building skills of visual literacy, self-expression, and critical thinking. Hands-on projects encourage play and experimentation while building fine motor skills to reinforce ideas learned.

  • Recommended grades: Pre-K – 1
  • Maximum: Up to 40 students
  • Length: One and a half hours
 

Elementary and Middle School –Creative Spark

Creative Spark promotes creative and critical thinking through the issues addressed in art exhibitions. Using guided gallery activities, students will explore specific works of art to bolster understanding, communication, and collaboration.

  • Recommended grades: 2–8
  • Maximum: 60 students
  • Length: One hour

High School –Viewfinder

Explore art in the galleries with docents who will add perspective filled with cultural context, rich content about the artists and their methods and techniques, and intended meaning in their artwork. As students analyze the artworks, they learn to connect and respond to art.

  • Recommended grades: 9–12 and post-secondary
  • Maximum: Up to 80 students
  • Length: One hour (Optional additional 30 minutes for sketching in the galleries after tour)
